Using Blab for Talent Development

On July 14, 2016 I hosted a Session with some of the members of ATD Piedmont.

It was an informal summer session to show the members how I use Blab in a public forum.

We had as many as 8 viewers during the session and 3 of the members were able to join us in the live conversation.

One of the challenges of using Blab is that you need to test your Webcam, Microphone, Speakers, your web browser and even your internet connection before joining a blab session. Testing, makes for a better experience.

We had lots of great conversations via the chat box, which is one of the benefits of blab. Up to 4 people in a conversation and dozens, if not hundreds of people listening, watching and engaging via chat.

Some of the tips we discussed regarding using for talent development conversations include:

  • Login is easy if you have an existing Twitter or Facebook personal account
  • Test your webcam, microphone, speakers and internet connection before joining a session.
  • Have a guest Host help manage the chat box and questions to make the conversations easy flowing.
  • ┬áStay focused to the topic points so the session does not go awry.
  • Keep the conversation within the desired time period.
  • Record the session for future sharing and even upload to YouTube or Vimeo
  • Remember the session is public, thus keep the conversations publicly acceptable. No confidential conversations.
  • Look at your lighting before going live. Have a light in your face, not on the back of your head.
  • Engage with your audience as much as you can. They are the reason for the session.

Here is the blab session we held:
